The Flock
Jersey Giant pictures will be coming soon. We occasionally have chicks and hatching eggs for sale.
Our flock is 100% heritage bloodlines and pure bred. NO hatchery stock in our flock. We have spent several years and much time aquiring the best bloodlines and maintaining them with appropriate feed and free ranging. Our birds are huge and healthy, they also conform to show standards with proper colorings such as yellow on bottom of feet, yellow beak tips, etc. I am very proud of my flock and work very hard to maintain it in an ethical and sustainable way.
I keep a generally closed flock, meaning I rarely bring in any poultry from the outside. For the most part, I do not incubate eggs, I allow my naturally broody hens do all the work. My most recent success being one hen hatching 15 (yes, 15!!) chicks and caring for them all to this day. They are in the juvenile stage right now, and are looking wonderful. Momma hen and her chicks are pictured below. As you can see, there is a nice assortment of of blues, blacks and splash.
We feed Purina flock raiser, Purina layena, oyster shell, meal worms, LOTS of pasture and garden veggies. Our flock free ranges our 2.5 acres everyday and are locked in their safe warm coop every night.
Our hens are big and healthy, lay big brown eggs and are allowed to go broody and raise their chicks as nature intended.
Our roosters are WONDERFUL! They are calm and FRIENDLY, some eat from our hands. They have a short, deep crow that doesnt go on forever. Any 'rude' roosters or long, loud crowers are culled into our freezer. As a dual purpose breed (meat and eggs) they make wonderful birds for the dinner table as well give eggs for the breakfast table!
Some of our roosters have gotten as large as 13 pounds- about the size of a small turkey!! And yet, still sweet and friendly, and wonderful flock guardians.
